Farm Diary 2010 June/July/August

19th July

The cows have come home....for calving that is. Calving starts on the 1st August and finsihes Christmas day. We use a drift calving management process and all calves are tagged and tested for pestivirus as they hit the ground. Calved cows and their calves then go into a new mob until joining (1st October). For the first time we have green feed (and lots of it!). After effectively 9 years of drought it is a sight for sore eyes!
