Madeline with Balgree Big Show

Riverslea Santa Gertrudis Stud was delighted to sponsor Madeline Stanton to attend the Warwick Junior Santa Gertrudis show 2010.

Madeline paraded a steer ("Big Show" - kindly supplied by Balgree Stud) to take out 2nd place in the led steer competition.

Madeline did a tremendous job in the paraders' competition to take out 2nd place in her age group. In a first for Madeline, she took part in the commercial judging competition, again taking out 2nd place.

Riverslea congratulates Madeline on her successes - we are sure she has a bright future in the cattle industry.

Southern Santa Gertrudis Breeders Inc.

At the recent AGM for Southern Santa Gertrudis Breeders inc. Alan Martin was elected President.

Other committee elected are:

Peter Stevenson (Naringalook) Vice President,
Robert Dobson (Ingleholme) Treasurer / Secretary,
Wayne and Marita Austin (Balagold) Promotions / Publicity.

Many thanks to the out-going committee, especially to Trevor Mason (Woodstock) who had held an executive position for 10 years. We look forward to a vibrant and active Southern Breeders' group and invite new members to contact us - both commercial and stud breeders.

"Guess the weight..." winner!

Congratulations to Julie Burke who won the "Guess the weight of the Steers" competition at our Spring field day - a $250 voucher. Julie, with her husband Brendan chose a nice young heifer with a stylish heifer calf at foot. They also took the pick of our unjoined commercial heifers in their selection of an exceptional young heifer. We wish them all the best with their purchases.

We will be running the "Guess the Weight of the Steer" competition at our Autumn Beef Week field day on Wednesday February 3rd. The prize again will be a $250 voucher for use at Riverslea.

All cattle in our feedlot are pure Santa Gertrudis or Santa Gertrudis cross.

Pen 1 (inducted at 280 -320 kg) have finished on 70 days feed with an average daily weight gain of 2.33kg/day. The cattle are fed a mix of propriety pellets and barley straw.

1st draft of 15 ADG = 2.49kg/day

The Santa Gertrudis bloat resistance, pink eye & eye cancer resistance, heat tolerance, great temperament, weight gain rates and high carcass yield make them the ideal cattle for us.

Excellent gains, excellent quality, without production losses.

National Beef 2009 - Diamond Shines Supreme

A great result - what a bright future this heifer has
and a terrific quiet nature to top it off

Riverslea Stud was thrilled to win the Supreme Santa Gertrudis exhibit with Riverslea Diamond.

Internationally renowned judge Graeme Hopf, put her up over the 3yo bull from SA, commenting on her structural correctness and feminine outlook.

For a team of 4 junior animals to win all of their individual classes; take out Champion Junior Bull & Champion Junior Heifer; win Grand Champion Female and then be awarded Supreme Santa Gertrudis Exhibit was an absolute thrill.

Rockingham B28 (poll) arrives at Riverslea

Finley Sale photoRiverslea Santa Gertrudis Stud were delighted to buy the equal top priced bull at the recent Southern Invitation Santa Gertrudis Bull sale.

Rockingham B28 is a dark coloured poll bull that is very correct.  Alan was quoted in The Land as saying "You know with Rockingham bulls you're buying a quality outfit.  It will go home and do the job for you.  This bull, with his sire appeal and high fertility traits, will be used over our young heifers."
